Accessibility
Our commitment to an inclusive, usable website for everyone
Last updated: June 2026
Our Commitment
Glean America is committed to ensuring our website is accessible to everyone, including people with disabilities. We want every farmer, youth group leader, and food bank, regardless of ability, to be able to learn about gleaning, search for partners, and sign up with ease. We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA.
What We've Done
Accessibility is built into how we design and develop the site. Steps we take include:
- Semantic HTML and descriptive labels so screen readers can navigate the page
- Full keyboard navigation, including menus, forms, and the page-section sidebar
- Visible focus indicators on links, buttons, and form fields
- Color choices and text sizes chosen for readable contrast
- Touch targets sized for comfortable use on phones and tablets
- Alternative text on meaningful images and labels on icon buttons
- A responsive layout that works across screen sizes and supports browser zoom
- Respect for the “reduce motion” setting, minimizing animation for those who prefer it
- Form fields with clear labels, helper text, and accessible error messages
Ongoing Effort
Accessibility is never “finished.” We continue to test and improve the site, and we know some areas may still fall short, for example, the interactive maps rely on a third-party library that may not be fully accessible to all assistive technologies. Where a feature isn't fully accessible, we aim to provide an equivalent alternative (such as a list view alongside the map), and we are always working to do better.
Need Help or Found a Problem?
If you have trouble accessing any part of this website, or if you'd like information in a different format, please tell us, we'll do our best to help and to fix the issue. When reporting a problem, it helps to include the page address, what you were trying to do, and the device or assistive technology you were using.
